News           List of Artists          Bibliography

Page modified last August 06, 2007

Please, read
the following announcement:

My mother, Tatiana Kofyan, the author of this site, has passed away on November 23d 2003, after a brief period of treatment for her illness. She had lymphoma, was treated 4 years previously, and hasn't survived it the second time.

Tatiana has spent a great deal of her time working on this site: scanning books, albums and even postcards; editing the scanned pictures, restoring badly printed ones and making the images manageable; creating the sequence of the pictures on the pages; collecting the names and details of every work; putting together the short biography of each artist; researching and answering mail from our many visitors; scouting for new material. There wasn't a phone call or a visit that hasn't touched on the subject of our site; there wasn't a friend she hasn't asked to be on the lookout for books and material.

She lived and breathed her Russian Avant-Garde Gallery, and I feel the need to continue her project. In her memory and in her honor I shall continue the work she has started, and so passionately pursued.

For the near and foreseeable future, as I have neither the opportunity nor the knowledge to further develop the site, I consider it my task to maintain it as it is. What I can say with a high degree of certainty is, that I plan to soon publish pages of her illustrations and other graphical work; and also a series of photos she took on her trips in Israel and abroad. This would allow our visitors to know my mother a little better. I shall also put up some family photos.

I had the privilege to grow up with a mother who was a very deep and talented person. During the Shiv'a week, someone asked me to describe my mother in a sentence. I think the one that best describes her is, that she has never known boredom. That was also her greatest legacy to me and to my own son.

Please, continue visiting us, and continue your correspondence. I shall answer to the best of my ability, and I also have been promised some help from her colleagues.

I would like to ask you all
to
sign our Guestbook
, before you leave.

God bless her memory.

Vera Kofyan

P.S.: It's the irony of fate, that just a short while before Mother's death I have published the following summary of our 2-year labor.

News           List of Artists          Bibliography           Top of Page

The Russian Avant-garde Gallery
is 5 years old!

Once again I would like to draw attention to the fact that another year has passed, and our site has now been on air for 5 years.

The last 3 years had been a standstill, since my mother's death, with no further development of this site, except for the part I have promised to you and to myself: my mother's page. I have published illustrations Tatiana Kofyan created for several books, and you may see them on About the Author page.

We have started from scratch. My mother, Tatiana, barely knew what Internet was, and I had to learn how to design, publish, operate and manage a web-site as I worked, on the go.

Since then we have changed our web-host provider; altered twice the style and design; learned to properly scan and process the published art; mastered many web-master terms, tricks and secrets; learned new computer programs; discovered rare books and beautiful unfamiliar works; and met a lot of fascinating visitors.

We have published 76 artists! Hundreds of paintings, sculptures, illustrations, theatre designs, posters, porcelain dishes, models and what not are presented here!

For me it has also been a journey of discovery in the art we published, for this is my mother's field, and I'm an Aerospace and Quality Assurance Engineer. Most of the material was totally new to me.

I am very happy to say that the response to our site is constantly growing, which can also be felt in the frequency and number of visitors, - we have hoped for a steady few, and got a torrent. The feedback we get from our visitors is also heartwarming, making all this hard work worthwhile.

I thank all our patient frequenters for their kind praise, their support and their questions, and hope that we get even more feedback in future.

I also thank you all for your infinite patience, that made this great effort worthwhile. I regret that no new information was published lately. I can only hope this would change soon.

Because of the demand, we have decided to publish the work of Pavel Filonov, way ahead of the order of movements. Those who wanted to see his work - this was for you.

So please, continue checking this page for periodic announcements.
