 Biography:

Katarzhina Kobro has studied at the 1-st SVOMAS (the State Free Art Workshop) in Moscow (1918-1919). She was in contact with the artists of ObMoHu (Society of Moscow Artists).

In 1920 she has married the artist Strzheminsky, and together they moved to Smolensk. She has taught at the SVOMAS in Smolensk, was a member of the Smolensk branch of UNOVIS. She was under influence of Kazimir Malevich and his suprematism.

After 1922 Kobro has lived in Kiev and Lvov, and in 1924 moved to Poland.

The artist was one of the organizing members (together with Strzheminsky) of the “BLOCK” group (1924), and a member of the society “PRAESENS” (1926), and “A.R.” (Artists-Revolutionaries, 1930).

K.Kobro has created three-dimensional suprematism constructions and sculptures, cubistic and figurative. In the late 1920s she has created a number of spatial geometric compositions, based solely on numerical considerations.

She has formulated the theoretical base for her creations in the book “Composition of space and calculation of the rhythm space-temporary” (1931).

The work of Kobro, like the work of V.Strzheminsky, was exhibited in postmortem expositions in Lodz and Warszawa.
