 Biography

Grischenko has studied at the faculty of Philology in the Universities of Petersburg, Kiev and Moscow (1905-1912). He hsa studied painting at the studio of S.Svetoslavsky,Kiev (1905), at the school of drawing and painting of of K.Yuon and I.Dudin, Moscow (1908-1910), and at the studio of I.Mashkov, Moscow (1910-1911).

The artist has visited Paris (1911) and Italy (1912). Much traveled in Russia cities in order to closely study Old Russian painting (1912-1914).

From 1909 he has taken part in exhibitions and was a member of groups NOKh (New Society of Artists), Moscow Salon, Jack of Diamonds, Union of Youth, Exhibition of Left Movements, World of Art, “Free Creation”, 12th State exhibition “Color Dynamos and Primitive Tectonic”, Association of Independent Artists of Ukraine (Lvov).

The artist was a member of a committee on Museum affairs and preservation of monuments. He has taught at the Moscow SVOMAS (High Free Workshops) in 1919.

In 1922 Grischenko has emigrated to France.

Grishchenko’s work has won high tributes from his contemporaries, his creation was highly esthetic, harmonic in texture, color and composition. His individual interpretation of cubism, geometry of outlines and choice and combination of color were associated with Kubist work as well as old Russian frescoes and Ikons, that the Artist has studied intently. Unfortunately, a lot of his work of the period from 1910s to early 1920s have perished, and today Grischenko's paintings are very rarely found even in museum collections.
