Top of Page Ostroumova-Lebedeva worked with engraving techniques, lithography and water-colors. Created many landscapes, and some portraits in water-colors. Completed a large and magnificent series of views of St.Petersburg (and thereafter Petrograd, Leningrad) and environs. The young artist has studied at the Stieglitz School of Technical Drawing (1889-1892), then at the St.Petersburg Academy under I.Repin, V.Mathé and P.Tchistiakov (1892-1900). During that time she has taken a leave to worked in Paris at Karmen Rossi and James Whistler’s studio (1898-1899). In 1906 studied at E.Zvantzeva's school under L.Bakst. Her woodcutting work began in 1898. Her traveling took her to Italy (1889, 1903, 1911), Paris (1900), France (1906), Holland, Belgium, Tyrol (1913), Spain (1914), Germany and France (1926). She was one of the founding members of the World of Art group. Her works were displayed at the World of Art and SRKH (Union of Russian Artists) exhibitions. Her personal exhibitions were held in St.Petersburg (1911) and in Moscow (1916). The artist taught as a professor at High Institute of Photography and Photo-technique in Petrograd (1918-1921), and at the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture attached to the All-Russian Academy of Arts (1934-1935). Her engravings have been awarded a medal at the Paris International Exhibition (1937). She was awarded the titles of Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR (Russian Federation) in 1942, and of the People's Artist of the RSFSR in 1946. She was a member of the Academy of Arts USSR from 1949.
