Issue XXIV, February 28th 2011.

Hello to all Russian Avant-garde Gallery visitors and subscribers.

Tatiana Kofyan's Birthday

Today is once again my mother's birthday. She would have been 70 years old. The Russian Avant-garde Gallery celebrates in her stead a Happy Birthday!

In honor of this day I would like to update you all about the changes which took place in 2010 and those imminent on the Russian Avant-garde Gallery.

What Has Been Done in 2010

During the last year I have opened 8 new Movements:

in addition to those already published before that. And those previously published were updated.

Twelve new pages were opened for eight new artists in seven Movements, including about 1,100 works:

Two pages of Tatiana's works were added:

  • Archaeology Drawings - published works and sketches by the Site Creator
  • Judaica - Jewish illuminated documents, books etc. by the Site Creator

The website was moved to a new hosting with a view to the future, as the previous hosting was not up to our growing needs.

A new concept was created for improving the website and making it more friendly for those who are new to Russian Avant-garde.

A whole website overhaul was begun, but about that - in the next section.

Update on the Website Overhaul

I have been for the last few months working on totally changing the whole concept of this website, to turn it from static html-based manually input separate individual pages to dynamic Joomla-powered database-operated platform.

This meant translating every bit of information into databases and creating them, finding just the right program to suit our needs and find the programmers who can help me make the website exactly the way it should look and feel; make the new graphic design which would work on the new platform. And finally, upload the thousands of works into the new system. It also meant deciding on the access to information, integrating the system with the forum and changing some of the way I think (the toughest one, that). Search functions would vastly improve, as well.

At this point, the programming is nearly complete, and part of the databases are already uploaded, so I have hope that in the nearest weeks the migration will be completed and put on air live. I was hoping that it would be done by today - but this doesn't depend only on me, but also on the programmers helping me.

Thank everyone for the patience and understanding, I am working tirelessly to make this an ever-better, more comfortable, user-friendly website, and also easier to manage for me.

Buying Books? Check out the Gallery's Recommendations!

I want to remind you to check out the categories for Recommended Books, Films and the one of Specialized Bookshops, where you may find many of the books out there by category, by artist, by movement - and see recommendations about them:

Your buying books, films, posters, calendars through the Gallery will also contribute to supporting of this website, which takes a lot of labour and time to develop and move forward. So do make use of the work invested in bringing the books to you.

If you know of a bookshop that will be interesting for the others - do tell me about it, and I will contact them and make sure it is represented here for everyone's benefit.

Reminder: Refresh Your Pages

As always, I would like to remind everybody to occasionally refresh the pages, due to the constant changes and additions on the website. This will ensure that you always see the latest version of the pages, and not the page cached (stored) on your computer from the last visit.

If you do not know how to do this - you can see instructions in the first issue of the newsletter. Or see your web browser help section.
