Hello to all Russian Avant-garde Gallery visitors and subscribers.

Another month has passed, the autumn is ending and we were at last blessed with some substantial rain, much needed in our country. And so another update is made on this website.

A New Artist Added

Another artist was added this month, Varvara Stepanova, wife and partner of Alexadr Rodchenko.

I have made two separate pages for Stepanova: one in the OBMOKhU group in which she was a member, and one in the Mass and Agit Art category; all in all over 180 works:

• Stepanova, Varvara (OBMOKhU) - 105 works
• Stepanova, Varvara (Mass & Agit Art) - 79 works

Varvara Stepanova was a true designer, perhaps one of the first. She possessed deep understanding of the way design should be approached, whether in textile and clothing, in book illustration or in theatre.

As is the case with Rodchenko, for most of her works, too, I have had difficulty finding the location, and for some - even the materials and sizes. I have posted the pages despite this setback, and if and where I find such information - it will be immediately added.

Added works for Existing Artists

I have added 1 work to Lubov Popova's page, a textile design. That was because during my work with Stepanova's page, I have found a photograph of Varvara Stepanova wearing a dress made from fabric for which the design was made by Popova, and I posted the photograph on the new page for the fabric.

I also added a significant number of works on both pages of Alexandr Rodchenko:

• Rodchenko, Alexandr (OBMOKhU) - 5 works added
• Rodchenko, Alexandr (Mass & Agit Art) - 24 works added

These, too, were located during my work on Stepanova's pages.

All new works are labeled with the "New" icon.

Added Paintings for Tatiana Kofyan

On Tatiana Kofyan's Paintings page I have added many works previously not posted:

• In the Watercolors section - 15 works added, now total 33;
• In the Oils section - 18 works added, now total 27;
• New section added: Early Work - 28 works.

Most of these works I had dated, places identified. I was aided in this task by friends and family in St.Petersburg. Some works still remain undated. This, too, will be rectified, in time.

Recommended Books on Avant-garde - Improved

I am continuing to work on the Recommended Books section in the Avant-garde Community category. All three available pages were modified in the following way:

General Collections on Avant-garde:

Many books in both English and Russian were added.

Several themes were added to the table:

• Book Illustration
• Specific Techniques;
• History

Individual Artists:

Recommendations were added for several new artists.

These pages are constantly updated, and improved.

Reminder: Refresh Your Pages
