Biography:

Lazar Khidekel has studied at the Practical-Art Institute (1918-1921) under M.Dobuzhinsky and M.Chagal. In 1919 he has met K.Malevich, who was teaching at the Institute.

He has published the article "About the united graphics program of UNOVIS" in the UNOVIS periodical. Together with I.Chashnik Khidekel has designed and pudlished the sole issue of litographical journal "AERO". He has published an article in the almanac "UNOVIS".

The artist was a member of UNOVIS from 1920.

He has moved to Petrograd (1922) together with K.Malevich and his pupils, and entered the Petrograd Institute of Civil Engineers, as architecture chair. Simultaneously he worked at the formal theoretic department of Museum of Art Culture (renamed GINKHUK in 1923), headed by Malevich.

He has written the article "About reforms in the art schools" for the magazine "Volcano" (1923).

Khidekel has worked on design of theatrical projects (1924), made sketches for "Floating Town", the town on artifical down-water base at Suprematism forms (1925). Worked part time for competition of student hostel-commune (1929), on a collective project of High Cooperative Institute in Moscow, and in many other architecture projects.

From 1930 till 1985 the artist has taught architecture at the Institute of Civil Engineers (now Engineering Constructing Institute) in Leningrad.

Participated in exhibitions: "First State exhibition of paitings of local and Moscow painters" (Vitebsk, 1919); "Exhibition of paintings of Petrograd artists all movies" (1923); 1919-1923 Petrograd; First exhibition of modern architecture (1927, Moscow); Exhibition of works of drawing and painting teachers (1940, Leningrad).
